Wiegenlied
Language: German (Deutsch)

Schlafe, mein Prinzchen, schlaf ein!
Schließe die Guckäugelein!
Alle schon gingen zur Ruh:
Schäfchen, das Hündchen dazu!
Täubchen flog müde zum Schlag!
Ruht bis zum folgenden Tag!
Schwarzköpfchen schläft in dem Strauch!
Schlafe, mein Prinzchen nun auch!
Häschen im waldigen Grund!
Birgt sich vor Jäger und Hund!
Strecket im Traume [sein]1 Ohr!
Steil aus dem Grase empor.
Mond webt mit silbernem Strahl!
Schleÿer um Berge und Thal!
Ringsum ist Friede und Ruh,
Schlafe mein Prinzchen [auch du]2!
Schlafe bis rosiger Schein,
Küßt dir die Guckäugelein,
Schlaf bis die fröhliche Welt
Leuchtend die Sonne erhellt!
Horch! Wie dann Schwarzköpfchen singt!
Täubchen sieh! Aufwärts sich schwingt!
Schäfchen, der Hirt und der Hund!
Ziehen zum waldigen Grund!
Häschen dort grade -- husch! husch!
Springt in den schützenden Busch!
Alles zum Frohsein erwacht!
Eÿ, wie mein Prinzchen da lacht!

Cradle Song
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Sleep, my little prince, go to sleep!
Close your little eyes!
Everyone has already gone to rest:
Sheep, the dog as well!
The dove has flown sleepily to the cote!
It will rest until the next day!
The waxbill is sleeping in the bush!
Sleep now, too, my little prince!
The rabbit in the forest-bordered meadow
Conceals himself from the hunter and hound!
In his dreams he stretches forth his ear
Straight up, straight up out of the grass.
With its silvery beam, the moon is weaving
Veils about the mountains and valleys!
All around is peace and stillness,
[You my prince, sleep, too!]1
Sleep until a rosy glow
Kisses your little eyes,
Sleep until the happy world
Is shiningly brightened by the sun!
Listen to how the waxbill then sings!
The dove, see! is soaring aloft!
The sheep, the shepherd and the dog
Head toward the forest-bordered meadows!
There the rabbit is just – quick! quick!
Leaping into the protecting bush!
Everything has awakened to be happy!
Oh, how my little prince shall laugh then!
