Da bringt Frühveilchen mir ein bettelnd Kind.

Es ist betrübt, daß so den ersten Gruß
Des Frühlings mir das Elend bringen muß.

Und doch der schönen Tage liebes Pfand
Ist mir noch werter aus des Unglücks Hand.

So bringt dem Nachgeschlechte unser Leid,
Die Frühlingsgrüße einer bessern Zeit.

Il est triste, que le premier salut
Du printemps me soit apporté par une telle misère.

Et pourtant un cher gage de magnifiques jours
M'est encore plus cher quand il vient d'une main misérable.

Ainsi notre souffrance apporte à notre descendance
Les vœux du printemps d'un temps meilleur.
