Die Frauen sind oft fromm und still,
wo wir ungebärdig toben,
und wenn sich eine Stärken will,
dann blickt sie stumm nach oben.
Ihr' Kraft und Stärke ist gering,
ein Lüftchen kann sie knicken,
doch ist's ein eignes, starkes Ding,
wenn sie gen Himmel blicken.

Oft hab' ich selbst mit Aufgesehn,
sah die Mutter so nach oben,
ich sah nur graue Wolken gehn
und blaue Luft da droben,
sie aber, wenn sie niedersah,
war voller Kraft und Hoffen,
mir ist, die Frauen hie und da
sehn noch den Himmel offen.

Les femmes sont souvent pieuses et silencieuses,
quand nous tempêtons sauvagement,
et si elles veulent se donner de la force,
alors, muettes, elles lèvent les yeux au ciel.
Leur force et leur puissance sont faibles,
un courant d'air peut les mettre à genoux,
mais c'est une chose singulière et forte
quand elles regardent le ciel.

J'ai moi-même, avec attention, souvent
vu ma mère regarder ainsi vers le ciel,
Je n'y ai vu que passer des nuages gris,
et l'azur du firmament,
mais elle, quand elle rabaissait les yeux,
elle était emplie de force et d'espoir.
pour moi, les femmes, ici ou là,
voient le ciel encore ouvert.
