ed accresc'al mio mal tormenti e pene,
è che per mia cagione

qui me coupe le souffle et oppresse mon cœur ?

Lidia, que j'adore tant,
parce que hélas, elle m'a donné un regard de pitié,
la rigueur paternelle l'emprisonne.
Enfermée entre deux murs
se tient la belle innocente,
là où aucun rayon de soleil ne peut arriver ;
et ce qui me fait encore plus mal
et ajoute à mon mal tourments et peines,
c'est qu'à cause de moi
ma bien-aimée éprouve des maux.

Et vous, yeux affligés, vous ne pleurez pas ?
Mes larmes, pourquoi vous retenez-vous ?

Lidia, hélas, je vois que me manque
l'idole que j'adore tant ;
elle se tient entre des murs de marbre,
elle pour qui je soupire et ne meurs pas.

Si la mort est la bienvenue,
maintenant que je suis privé d'espoir,
oh, prenez-moi la vie,
je vous en prie, mes dures peines.

Mais je réalise bien
