Des Königs von Spanien Tochter
Ein Gewerb zu lernen begann.
Sie wollte wohl lernen nähen,
Waschen und nähn fortan.

Und bei dem ersten Hemde,
Das sie sollte gewaschen han,
Den Ring von ihrer weißen Hand
Hat ins Meer sie fallen lan.

Sie war ein zartes Fräulein,
Zu weinen sie begann.
Da zog des Wegs vorüber
Ein Ritter lobesan:

"Wenn ich ihn wiederbringe,
Was giebt die Schöne dann?"
"Einen Kuß von meinem Munde
Ich nicht versagen kann."

Der Ritter sich entkleidet,
Er taucht ins Meer wohlan,
Und bei dem ersten Tauchen
Er nichts entdecken kann.

Und bei dem zweiten Tauchen,
Da blinkt der Ring heran,
Und bei dem dritten Tauchen
Ist ertrunken der Rittersmann.

Sie war ein zartes Fräulein,
Zu weinen sie begann.
Sie ging zu ihrem Vater:
"Will kein Gewerb fortan."

La fille du roi d'Espagne
Commença à apprendre un métier
Elle voulut bien apprendre à coudre,
À laver et encore à coudre.

Et dès la première chemise
Qu'elle dut laver,
Elle fit tomber dans la mer
L'anneau de sa blanche main.

C'était une délicate demoiselle,
Et elle se mit à pleurer.
C'est alors qu'un chevalier de grand mérite
Passa sur le chemin :

« Si je le rapporte,
Que me donnera la belle ? »
« Un baiser de ma bouche,
Je ne puis le refuser. »

Le chevalier se déshabille,
Il plonge aussitôt dans la mer,
Et au premier plongeon,
Il n'a rien pu trouver.

Et au second plongeon,
L'anneau brille tout près,
Et au troisième plongeon
Le chevalier se noie.

C'était une délicate demoiselle,
Elle se mit à pleurer.
Elle alla voir son père :
