Ja Nordanaas-Lidi, der er det godt;

Eg Ormen skal jaga, som bit din Legg,

Ici, pendant l'été on vagabonde avec joie ;
Sur la montagne on trouve les plus fins herbages ;
dans la vallée coule le ruisseau rapide.
Et la caresse du vent est aussi douce et légère
que le bruissement béni des clairs sommets.

Ô Kyri ma bonne, ô ma Kyri !
Ici tu vas bien te porter, sur cette verte prairie ;
ici une source murmure et son flot ruisselle,
et l'herbe est tendre et l'ombre fraîche.
Oui les prairies de Nordanå sont bonnes ;
les huldres y font paître presque chaque nuit.

Ô ma gentille Kyri, ô ma Kyri,
ô, ne sont-ils pas bons ces petits moments !
Je chasserai le serpent qui mord tes pattes,
et mouches, moustiques et taons qui piquent.
Et le jour s'en ira, comme une valse légère,
et si tu te reposes, je caresserai ton cou.

Alors à la maison on entendra la son de ta clarine
quand approche l'heure du coucher du soleil ;
Puis tu t'approcheras avec tes mamelles pleines
et lécheras ton sel venant du mur de la cuisine.
Ensuite tu seras traite et tu iras dans l'enclos
où tu rumineras, rêveras et dormiras en paix.

Ô Kyri mon amie, ô ma Kyri !
Rêve bien, de moi et de la verte prairie !
Nous chanterons là haut avec joie tout l'été ;
à l'automne nous rentrerons à la maison.
Alors toi, tu marcheras vers la ferme comme une reine,
et tout le monde s'écriera : « non mais ! Quelle vache ! »
