Da es draußen Morgen war,
Kämmte sich die langen Haare,
Wusch sich ihre Äuglein klar.
 
Sangen Vöglein aller Arten,
Sonnenschein spielt' vor dem Haus,
Draußen überm schönen Garten
Flogen Wolken weit hinaus.
 
Und sie dehnt' sich in den Morgen,
Als ob sie noch schläfrig sei,
Ach, sie war so voller Sorgen,
Flocht ihr Haar und sang dabei:
 
"Wie ein Vöglein hell und reine,
Ziehet draußen muntre Lieb,
Lockt hinaus zum Sonnenscheine,
Ach, wer da zu Hause blieb'!"

La jeune fille

Il y avait une jeune fille à la fenêtre,
Dehors c'était justement le matin,
Elle coiffait ses longs cheveux,
Elle lavait ses yeux clairs.

Des oiseaux de toutes sortes chantaient,
La lumière du soleil jouait devant la maison,
Dehors, au-dessus de son joli jardin
Des nuages s'envolaient au loin.

Et elle se pencha dans le matin,
Bien qu'elle fut encore endormie,
Elle était hélas si pleine de chagrin,
Elle tressait ses cheveux tout en chantant :

« Comme un vif et pur petit oiseau,
Un fringant amour court là-bas,
Attiré au-dehors par la lumière du soleil,
Hélas, qui resterait là, à la maison ! »
