Rettung

Mein [Mädchen]1 ward mir ungetreu,
Das machte mich zum Freudenhasser;
Da lief ich an ein fließend Wasser,
Das Wasser lief vor mir vorbei.
Da stand ich nun, verzweiflend, stumm;
Im Kopfe war mirs wie betrunken,
Fast war ich in den Strom gesunken,
Es ging die Welt mit mir herum.
Auf einmal hört ich was, das rief -
Ich wandte just dahin den Rücken -
Es war ein Stimmchen zum Entzücken:
"Nimm dich in acht! Der Fluß ist tief."
Da lief mir was durchs ganze Blut,
Ich seh, so ist's ein liebes Mädchen;
Ich frage sie: Wie heißt du? "Käthchen!"
O schönes Käthchen! Du bist gut.
Du hältst vom Tode mich zurück,
Auf immer dank ich dir mein Leben;
Allein das heißt mir wenig geben,
Nun sei auch meines Lebens Glück!
Und dann klagt ich ihr meine Not,
Sie schlug die Augen lieblich nieder;
Ich küßte sie und sie mich wieder,
Und - vor der Hand nichts mehr von Tod.

Sauvetage
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Mon amie m'a été infidèle,
Ce qui a chassé toute joie en moi ;
Alors j'ai couru au bord d'un cours d'eau,
L'eau passait, courant devant moi.
Alors j'étais là, désespéré, muet ;
Ma tête était comme embrumée par l'ivresse,
J'étais presque noyé par le courant,
Le monde tournoyait autour de moi.
Tout à coup j'entendis quelqu'un crier --
Je tournais justement le dos --
C'était une petite voix ravissante :
« Fais attention ! Le fleuve est profond. »
Alors mon sang ne fit qu'un tour,
Je vis que c'était une charmante demoiselle ;
Je lui demandai : comment t'appelles-tu ? « Cathy ! »
Ô belle Cathy ! Tu es bonne.
Tu m'as arraché à la mort,
Je te suis redevable de ma vie à jamais ;
Mais cela seul est peu de chose,
Sois aussi désormais le bonheur de ma vie !
Et ensuite je lui fis part de ma détresse,
Elle baissa les yeux de façon charmant ;
Je lui fis un baiser et elle me le rendit
Et dès lors on ne pensa plus à la mort.
