Sängers Rückblick

Language: German (Deutsch)

Wie freundlich niederblicket
Der milde Abendstern,
So seh' ich auf mein Leben
Zurücke gar zu gern;
Gedenke dann in Freude
Der frische Jugendzeit,
Und jener schönen Tage,
Dem Vaterland geweiht!

Auch mancher frohen Stunde
In holder Frauen Kreis,
Wo mir die Kunst der Musen
Erwarb oft süßen Preis;
Der Liebe edler Menschen,
Die mich so hoch beglückt,
Auch mancher banger Sorge,
Die schwer mein Herz gedrückt.

Doch alles ist vergangen,
Wie Sterne untergehn;
Nur Eines ist gelieben
Trotz aller Stürme Wehn:
Erinnerung, die holde,
Im Herzen fromm und treu,
So sind vergang'ne Tage
Mir ewig werth und neu.
