Hig ej mod Livets virkelige Færd!
Det har kun Nats og Middagslysets Farve,
Drømmen har ene Morgenrødens Skjær; --
Dør du og har levet, død er du Livets,
Aanden vil da søge til Jorden igjen;
Dør du som Drømmer, dø da kan du rolig,
Hele din Verden med dig blegner hen.
