Sieh mich nicht mehr voll Wehmut an,
du Aug', das einst mir wohlgetan.
O schone mein, dein milder Blick
ruft mich nicht mehr zurück!

Du sprachst so kalt, es müsse sein;
so trag' ich denn mein Leid allein.
Du lässt es ruhig ja gescheh'n,
auf Nimmerwiederseh'n!

Ich wand're fort ins fremde Land,
schon wend' ich mich; gib mir die Hand.
Erst wenn uns trennen Berg und Au'n,
will ich zurück noch schau'n.

So leb denn wohl, und denkst du mein,
verkünd' es mir ein Lüftelein,
das mag vom Aug' die Träne weh'n.
Leb wohl! Nun lass mich geh'n!
