by Richard von Kralik (1852 - 1934)

Soll ich endlich von dir lassen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Soll ich endlich von dir lassen,
Liebesneckerin?
Soll ich endlich dich umfassen,
Liebesweckerin?

Schon verdunkelt sich dein Bildnis
wie ein Morgentraum;
führtest mich in düst're Wildnis,
nun versteh' ich's kaum.

Also ruf' ich wie zum fernen
Herrn der Cherubim,
doch er wandelt über Sternen,
und wer weiß von ihm?

Und wer weiß, ob er uns höret
und ob er uns gut?
Doch wir rufen ungestöret
treu mit hohem Mut.

Manches Lieb hab' ich geliebet,
war geliebt wohl auch,
aber nie hab' ich geübet
also fremden Brauch.

Manches Lied hab' ich gesungen,
das mir wohl gelang,
doch am besten ist gelungen,
was ich für dich sang.
