Den Bergstock in der starken Hand
erreicht er jetzt die Teufelswand -

Es zischt der Blitz, es pfeift der Wind;
der Vater denkt an Weib und Kind -

Das Wetterlicht, es hat gezeigt,
was tiefes Dunkel sonst verschweigt.

Vergeblich späht sein Blick hinaus
