Die Sterne

Language: German (Deutsch)
Wie seid ihr, gold'ne Sterne,
so freundlich anzuschau'n!
Wie ging' ich schon so gerne
auf eu'ren lichten Au'n!

Wie muss so still es droben
beu euch, ihr stillen, sein,
wo keine Stürme toben
und keine Wetter dräu'n!

Wo keine Dornen stechen,
kein Sturm an Blüten nagt,
wo keine Herzen brechen
und kein Verlass'ner klagt!

Umsonst such' ich hinieden
den Quell der Seligkeit;
die Welt gibt keinen Frieden,
sie kennt nur Kampf und Streit.

Ach, was ich treib' und lerne,
beruhigt nicht mein Herz;
es strebt hinauf, o Sterne,
es sehnt sich himmelwärts.

Confirmed with Christosophisches Gesangsbuch, W. Wehner (Hrsg.), Kiel, 1838.

Note: in Gedichte von Friedrich Bobrik, Leipzig, 1851, stanza 3, line 2, word 2 is "Wurm", which makes more sense; but this edition is missing the fourth stanza, so Lindpaintner's source was probably Christosophisches Gesangsbuch.
