Fanny sah ich, hingesunken
Am Altar zur Gottheit flehn;
Ach, ich war von Liebe trunken
Und die Heilige so schön! 

Weh mir, rief ich, weh mir Armen,
Daß ich dieses Mundes Kuß,
Das Umschlingen dieser Armen 
Und dies Lächeln missen muß! 

Ach!  entreiß mich der Beschwerde,
Mache, fromme Beterin,
Mich zum Heil'gen   --  oder werde
Du geschwind zur Sünderin.
