by Christoph Martin Wieland (1733 - 1813)

Oft am Rande stiller Fluten
Language: German (Deutsch)
Oft am Rande stiller Fluten
Sitz' ich einsam da und zähle,
  Zähl' an ihrem trägen Lauf,
Ach! die schleichenden Minuten
  Unsrer langen Trennung auf.

Dann geh' ich hin und wanke
Durch Hein und Tal und Flur!
Mein einziger Gedanke
  Bist du, Geliebter nur.

Bei jedem Lispeln
  Aus dunklem Laube,
Bei jedem Flügelschlag
  Der Turteltaube,
Wie lauscht mein sehnend Ohr,
  Wie klopft mein Herz!
Und wenn ich Tage lang
  Gelauscht, gesucht -- wie bang
Ist dann mein Schmerz!
