Die Braut
Language: German (Deutsch)
Du edle Braut, du schöne Braut,
So herrlich anzuschauen!
Dich halt ich werth, Dich rühm ich laut
Vor allen andern Frauen.

Als ich am kühlen Saalestrand
In stiller Andacht lauschte,
Wie über mir am Felsenrand
Des Haines Schatten rauschte:

Da sah ich Dich im Eichenkranz
Auf morgenrothen Hügeln,
Sah in der Sonne hellem Glanz
Dein Bild im Strome spiegeln.

Wie ich voll Ahnung niedersank!
Wie mir der Busen brannte!
Bis mir Dein Bild zum Herzen drang,
Und ich Dich ganz erkannte.

Mein Vaterland, Du bist die Braut,
So herrlich anzuschauen!
Dir bin ich ewig angetraut
In Lust und Todesgrauen.

Noch vor der Mutter erstem Kuß
Auf ihres Säuglings Wangen,
Botst Du mir schon den Weihegruß,
Hieltst Du mich schon umfangen.

Und dort am kühlen Saalestrand
Erschienst Du mir auf's Neue,
Da schwur ich Dir mit Herz und Hand
Den Schwur der ew'gen Treue.

Dir bleib ich nah, Dir bleib ich fern
Unwandelbar ergeben,
Dir leb ich ganz, Dir sterb ich gern,
Dir dank ich ja das Leben.

Dir dank ich einst, mein Vaterland,
Wenn Freiheitsflammen werben,
Den süßen Tod am freien Strand
In Deinem Arm zu sterben.
