Ainsi, voilà l'espace où ma vie a tourné,
     Ces monts, ces arbres sombres.
C'est pour ces incidents si vains et si légers
     Que je sortis des ombres,
 
Pour cette humble fenêtre où l'azur assoupi
     Balance des abeilles,
Pour ces rêves menus dont mon coeur endormi
     A caressé ses veilles.
 
Je n'étais que cela, je ne suis que cela,
     Ô ma vie isolée,
Et le temps a choisi d'acheminer mes pas
     Au sein de ces vallées.
 
Adieu le souvenir, adieu toutes saisons
     Mauvaises ou joyeuses ;
Le jour passe et je donne aux brises du gazon
     Mon âme harmonieuse.
