by Carl Schultes (1822 - 1904)

In der Kapell' im Todtenschrein
Language: German (Deutsch)
In der Kapell' im Todtenschrein,
Da liegt ein deutscher Held.
Drei Söhne stehen trüb dabei --
Sein Liebstes auf der Welt.

Der Erste nahm des Vaters Hand,
Drückt weinend sie so fest;
"Für deutsche Kraft, die du mir gabst,
Hab' Dank auf's Allerbest'!"

Der Zweite sprach: "So fahre wohl!
Mein Dank dich ewig preist;
Denn deine Lehren gaben mir
Den echten deutschen Geist!"

Der Jüngste trat zum Todtenschrein,
Warf drauf sich hin vor Schmerz.
Der hatte 's Beste wohl geerbt:
Ein treues, deutsche Herz.
