by Georg Theodor Klein (1829 - 1865)

Der Trompeter
Language: German (Deutsch)
Auf hohem Wall der Trompeter
In der Abenddämmerung steht;
Er bläs't ein gar lustig Stücklein
Auf seiner blanken Trompet';
Doch denkt er der Liebsten sein
Im dämmernden Abendschein,
So wird's ihm um's Herz so eng,
Als wollt' es zerspringen:   "Trätäng!"

O trügen die Abendlüftchen
Der Treuen die Klänge zu:
Schlaf' wohl, du fein süßes Bräutchen,
Und harre des Fernen in Ruh'.
Ein Küßchen, ein einziges blos;
O die Ferne ist mitleidlos!
Und doch ist's sein Bräutchen, ja, ja!
Sein herziges Bräutchen:  "Trara!"

Confirmed with Georg Theodor Klein, Gedichte, St. Gallen: Scheitlin und Zollikofer, 1857, page 185. Appears in Vermischte Gedichte.
