På min örtagård blekt faller kvällsstjärnans ljus, 
i min lind går den suckande höstvindens sus 
och höstkvällens skuggfloder flöda. 
Blicka milt, o min stjärna, gå sakta, o vind, 
sjung din sorgesång vyssjande stilla, min lind, 
som du sjöng för slumrande döda!

Ty här vilar en ros, som jag förr hade kär. 
örvissnad och fallen i hösten hon är. 
Signad är sömnens gåva! 
När man givit sin glans och sin färg och sin doft, 
är det gott att få somna och varda till stoft.
