by Robert Tornow (1852 - 1895)

Der verlassene Vogel
Language: German (Deutsch)
Aus dem warmen Nest gefallen
war ein flügellahmer Vogel;
Menschenhand hat ihn gefangen,
sperrt' ihn in den Käfig ein.
Dankbar nahm er Trank und Speise,
heiter klangen seine Lieder;
er vergaß die holde Freiheit,
dachte wohl, es müsst' so sein.

Frühling war's, er sang im Fenster;
viele Vöglein aus dem Walde
kamen, lauschten dem Gesange,
und sie fielen jubelnd ein.
Wären sie doch ferngeblieben!
Als sie fort geflattert waren,
da fühlte sich der arme Sänger
erst gefangen und allein!
