Le ver luisant

Ne te souvient-il plus du petit ver luisant
Que ta main suspendit, comme un pur diamant,
Au lilas tout en fleurs qui touche à ma fenêtre ?
Chaque soir, quand l'étoile au ciel bleu scintillait,
Le petit ver aussi doucement rayonnait
Comme l'espoir charmant qu'en mon coeur tu fis naître.

Mais bientôt vint un soir, j'attendis vainement
La tremblante lueur du petit ver d'argent,
L'ennui, le froid, la mort avaient éteint sa flamme...
Hélas, un soir aussi ton front distrait et froid,
Ta bouche sans sourire, et ta sévère voix
Eteignirent l'amour qui tremblait dans mon âme !..
