by Jacques Boucher de Crèvecœur de Perthes (1788 - 1868)

Je ne reviendrai plus
Language: French (Français)
J'ai vu naître l'aurore
a l'ombre de ces bois,
je viens la voir encore
pour la dernière fois.
Chante, chante, ô fauvette,
sous ces arbres touffus ;
Redis ta chansonnette,
je ne l'entendrai plus.

Fontaine qui murmure,
Naïade de ce lieu,
coteaux, rochers, verdure,
je vais partir, adieu !
Chaumière où je suis née,
témoin de mes beaux jours,
la pauvre abandonnée
vous quitte pour toujours.

Adieu ! douce hirondelle,
tu fuis de ces climats,
à la saison nouvelle
vers eux tu reviendras.
Comme toi, voyageuse
pour des lieux inconnus,
je pars ; mais moins heureuse,
je ne reviendrai plus.

Confirmed with Satires, contes et chansonnettes par M. Boucher de Perthes, Paris, 1833.
