Was pocht es in der Brust so laut,
was soll solch wild Gebärden?
Will's mitten in des Winters Drang
im Herzen Frühling werden?
Es keimt und sprosst, es drängt und schwillt,
es ist ein Knistern und Klingen,
als sollten neue Blüten sich
der Knospenhaft entringen.

Doch ach! Der schöne Frühlingstraum
will mir so rasch zerrinnen;
noch hab' ich ihn empfunden kaum,
und schon muss ich von hinnen.
Dass ich auf meiner Wanderbahn
zum Wandern nimmer tauge,
das hat ein Augenblick getan,
ein Blick aus deinem Auge!

Mein Herz, halt' aus in Stürmen fest,
treu Meinen muss gewinnen!
Nun will zu bauen sich ein Nest
der Wandervogel beginnen.
Es bricht das Eis, es schmilzt der Schnee,
mag sich der Frost auch mühen.
So wird aus überwund'nem Weh'
uns leuchtend Glück erblühen.
