An sie

Choose for Diff
Meines Lebens höchste Wonne,
meines Daseins höchstes Glück
ist von dir ein einz'ger Blick.
Wie nach dunkler Nacht die Sonne
Glanz und Leben wieder bringt,
so dein klares Aug' in meine
gramumschlung'ne Seele dringt.
Aus den schwarzen, großen Sternen
Himmelsfunken sprüh'n,
solch ein Funken in dem Herzen
weilet ewig, ewig d'rin.

Deiner Augen Himmelsfunken
wärmster, ewig licht und rein,
fiel so tief ins Herz hinein.
D'rum bin ich stets wonnetrunken,
wenn ich dir ins Auge seh',
den der Funken in dem Herzen
spüret seiner Heimat Näh',
und dann lodert groß und mächtig
er zur Flamm' empor,
bringt der Liebe reinste Gluten
in der Seele mir hervor.

Dieses Feuer in dem Herzen
stammt aus deinem lieben Blick,
ist mein Heiligtum, mein Glück.
Bringt auch seine Glut oft Schmerzen,
auch die Schmerzen sind so süß!
Denn das Götterlicht zeigt freundlich
mir den Weg zum Paradies.
D'rum, du Feuer in dem Herzen,
hehres Götterlicht,
brenne, lod're auf in Flammen,
nur erlösche du mir nicht!
