que près d'ici chante un bel ange ?
Mère, entends-tu ces chants joyeux,
qui semblent m'appeler aux Cieux ?

Ce n'est pas l'ange qui t'inspire,
dors, mon enfant, c'est le délire.
Non, mère, non, car je le voi :
Viens, me dit-il, viens avec moi !
Entends-tu etc.

Dors, mon enfant, dors ! L'esperance
est au fond de toute souffrance.
Tu peux être guèri demain.
Mère, mère ! Il me prend la main !
Entands-tu etc.

Non, mon enfant, près de ta couche,
c'est ma pauvre main que tu touches.
Mère, il m'emporte dans ces bras ...
adieu ! nous nous verrons là-bas !
Et l'on entendit la louange
qu'en s'envolant chantait un ange.
Tandis que des cris douloureux
repondaient à ces chants des Cieux.
