L'heure silencieuse
Language: French (Français)
L'heure silencieuse
C'est l'heure discrète et tranquille
Qu'attend pour rentrer le troupeau;
L'heure où se tient près du berceau
La bonne maman immobile;
C'est l'heure chère au chemineau
En quête de pain et d'asile,
L'heure où l'on brode son trousseau
En rêvant d'habiter la ville;
C'est l'heure du tendre abandon
où Jean va rejoindre Ninon
pour effeuiller la Pâquerette;
C'est l'heure troublante du soir,
L'heure où se croisent sans se voir
Ninon, chemineau et poète.

The silent hour
Language: French (Français)  after the French (Français)
The silent hour;
It is the hour, discreet and peaceful,
Which waits for the flock to return;
The hour where the good, unmoving mother
Stands [watch] near the cradle;
It is the hour dear to the vagabond
In search of bread and refuge,
The hour where one embroiders their clothing,
Dreaming of living in the town;
It is the hour of tender abandon
where Jean goes to meet Ninon
to pluck the [petals] off the daisy;
It is the unsettling hour of the evening,
The hour where they pass without seeing one another:
Ninon, vagabond, and poet.
