Le noble Arthus fut aimé d'Arabelle,
Qui pour lui seul avait connu l'amour;
Dissimulant sa blessure mortelle,
Elle brûlait sans espoir de retour.
Dieu fasse paix à qui brûle comme elle!

Les doigts errans sur sa harpe fidèle,
Elle venait, à l'approche des nuits,
Sous les créneaux de la sombre tourelle
Gémir dans l'ombre et chanter ses ennuis.
Dieu fasse paix a qui gémit comme elle!

Un soir, cédant à sa peine cruelle,
L'infortunée à jamais disparut,
Et, loin d'Arthus, la plaintive Arabelle
Ne pleura point; hélas! elle mourut.
Dieu fasse paix a qui mourra comme elle!
