Die Blumen welken, wenn sie kaum gepflückt;
Als ob, so nah der Gluth gerückt,
Nicht alles Leben müßte plötzlich enden. 

In deiner Hand, zu nah dir und zu ferne,
Verschmachten sie gleich Dem, der hochbeglückt,
Von deiner Augen Glanz und Huld entzückt, 
Zu dir emporschaut wie zu einem Sterne. 

Nun aber drück' ans Herz die welken Blüten,
Die halbverstorbenen an deinen Mund;
An diesem Bronnen werden sie gesund,
Wie an den Flammen sie vorher verglühten.
