by Frederick (Fred) G. Bowles ( flourished 1899-1918 )

A Noontide song
Language: English
Shadows of clouds across the sea
Float o'er the slumb'ring deep;
Summer has crown'd a world of glee
Fallen today asleep

Butterflies gem the tranced air
Delicate winds pass by;
Over the cornland, sweet and fair,
Songs of the wavelets die

Watching the joy of drifting wings
Over a drowsy sea
Hush'd is the heart of all glad things
Breathing their joy to me

Poppies aflame on yonder hill
Peace, and an hour so blest;
Filling a world with rapture still
Lulling a soul to rest
