by Hugo Nestor Verriest (1840 - 1922)

De Minne
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Stil en treurig de avond valt
over wei en water
't Bootje vaart, een liedeke schalt
over wei en water.

O de minne loert in 't riet,
in het wiegend water.
Ze antwoordt zoejtes op het lied
met de stem van 't water.

't Knaapken horkt en spiegelt
in 't spieglend Leiewater,
't monkelt, 't monkelt waar die watermin
monkelt uit het water.

Waterminne loos en boos
zingt en lacht in 't water
't Knaapke kijkt en argeloos
't hangt daar over 't water.

't Knaapke tuimelt in den Vloed.
En de minne in 't water
zingt nog luider 't liedeken zoet
't liedeken van 't water.

Stil en treurig spreidt de nacht
over wei en water
Vruchtloos dat ge op 't Knaapke wacht,
bootjen op het water.
