Sängers Weissagung

O träume süß von sel'gen Himmelsräumen,
wenn ich im traurig kalten Mondenscheine
still sehnend unter deinem Fenster weine,
du fromme Maid, in deinen gold'nen Träumen!

Ich träume auch, doch nur von grausen Dingen,
mir träumt von einem Lied voll bitt'rer Tränen,
voll Nachgedanken, voll von Grabes Sehnen.
Ich will es stets das ganze Leben singen.

Und wenn das Lied nun einmal angefangen,
wenn alle tausend Träume endlich schweigen,
wirst du dich liebend erst herunter neigen,
wo einst die Leier düster süß geklungen.

Als stiller Geist nur wandl' ich dann vorüber,
und seufz' hinauf, wie Frühlingslüftchen milde,
und forschend suchst du nach des Sängers Bilde,
und deine gold'nen Träume werden trüber.
