Quando Rinaldo
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Quando Rinaldo invitto
Armida abbandonò,
Sentendo il cor trafitto
Per duolo ella mancò.
Tal piaga sentì,
Tal doglia soffrì,
Che in tanta pena suo desir fù
Non viver più.

Con mille ohimè dolenti
I lidi ella ferì,
E in questi amari accenti
L'acerba doglia aprì:
"Hor dunque da me
Vuoi volgere il piè?
Hor dunque il cielo
Mirar potrà
Tua crudeltà?
Perfido, mancatore:
Sia maledetto il dì
Che coi suoi sguardi Amore
Il petto mi ferì.
Diversa mercè
Sperò la mia fe,
E provo -- ahi lassa --
Tua ferità
Senza pietà."

Ciò detto, ella oprò poi
Sua magica virtù:
E agl'incanti suoi
Pluto ubbidiente fù.
Il sol s'oscurò,
la terra tremò
E d'atre nubi,
velando il dì,
Ella sparì.
