Der erste Schnee

Nun ist gefallen der erste Schnee,
Das bringt den Vöglein viel bittres Weh.

Sie hüpfen hungrig im Feld umher;
Kein Körnlein gibt es, kein Würmlein mehr.

Sie hocken frierend auf kahlem Baum
Und ziehn die Köpflein tief in den Flaum.

Warum so traurig blickt ihr herab,
Da euch doch Flügel die Liebe gab?

Sie wartet eurer am fernen Strand
Und streut euch Futter aus voller Hand.

Da fliegt's und flattert's hoch überm Schnee,
Da singt's und zwitschert's: ade, ade.

Nur einen seh ich, der hocken blieb,
Das ist der Sperling, der schlaue Dieb.

Er spricht zum Weiblein: "Wozu der Flug?
Des Bauern Scheune hat Korn genug."
