A merry little Savoyard
Language: English
A merry little Savoyard
Thro' the world I roam;
Carolling the mountain songs
Of my native home.

In every town and village
They welcome me with smiles:
For oft at even Madeline
The passing hour beguiles.

The maidens throng around me,
They listen to my lay:
'Tis then I dance my Saraband,
And laugh and sing and play.

A merry little Savoyard
Thro' the world I roam;
Carolling the mountain songs
Of my native home.

Yet mem'ry sometimes pictures
My home beyond the sea,
And then a silent tear will fall
For friends once dear to me.

But soon some kind and cheering glance
Will bid my heart be gay;
Oh! then I sing and gaily dance
To drive my cares away.
