by Maximilian "Max" Beilhack (1835 - 1885)

Letzter Trost
Language: German (Deutsch)
Meine Mutter war verschieden,
Und ich selbst der Liebe bar.
Ruhelos und ohne Frieden
Wandert' ich so manches Jahr.

Bald versengten Sonnengluten,
Bald erstarrte mich der Nord;
Und die alten Wunden bluten,
Jede Hoffnung über Bord!

Heimgekehrt am Pilgerstabe
Fand ich erst ein leitend Licht:
Auf der lieben Mutter Grabe
Blühte ein Vergißmeinnicht.

Confirmed with Max Beilhack, Gedichte, Cannstatt: Louis Bosheuyer, 1857, page 48. Appears in Marie.
