Deep in the mine
Language: English
Deep in the mine's dense gloom profound,
Far from the sun's bright ray
And every cheerful sight and sound,
I toil alone all day.
Under the safety lamps' pale gleam
A vision comes to cheer:
I see as in a waking dream
My wife and children dear!
Deep, deep in the gloomy mine
I have no thought of fear,
For well I know that love divine
To me is always near!
Though soldiers may to battle go
By hopes of glory led,
The miner fights no earthly foe
To win his children bread.
Firedamp is the cry that brings
Terror to the miner brave,
As through the dark it rings,
And turns it to a grave.
Deep, deep in the gloomy mine
I have no thought of fear,
For well I know that love divine
To me is always near!
