Wie sich der Frühling opfernd vor der Sonne
Auf Hügeln, süß von Weihrauch, selbst verzehrt,
So geb ich dir, o Herr, der mich begehrt,
Die deinem Blick erschloßne Liebeswonne.

In deine Flamme warf ich meine Blüte.
Dein göttlich Feuer stürmend schnell genießt
Den zarten Flor, der mir vom Herzen sprießt:
Mich selber denn, da du mich liebst, behüte!

Laß nach, o Glut, daß ich nicht sterbe! Längst
Mit immer neuen Opfern dich verehrend,
Hab ich, was mein war, deinem Wunsch gegeben;

Verlange nicht, daß du mich ganz empfängst,
Mein Leben auch. -- Du schütteltest verwehrend
Das Haupt und sprachest: Liebe! wozu leben?
