Die Sage weiß von eines Brunnens Tugend,
So fruchtbar und geheimnisvoll erlaucht,
Daß er den Greis, der wankend untertaucht,
Verwandelnd schmückt mit neugewirkter Jugend.

Sieh, wie der Leib, der seiner Kraft vertraut
Sich selig hebt aus den erglühten Wogen,
Von ihrer Inbrunst schwellend vollgesogen,
Mit frischen Lebens Morgenrot betaut,

Bald an sich selbst, bald an der Welt sich weidet,
Die Arme breitend nach der Frühlingsflur,
Mit wundertätgen Tropfen sie befeuchtend,

So wenn mein Herz aus deinen Armen scheidet,
Grüß ich verjüngt die lachende Natur,
Von deiner Kraft and deiner Schönheit leuchtend.
