Matin d'octobre. Le vieil homme ouvre sa croisée
      Et regarde le paysage gris :
  Du haut de la branche noire et brisée
  D'un pommier mort de Barbarie
      Le vieux corbeau décrépit
      Écoute jacasser les trois pies
      Qui sautent dans le pré ;
      Un chien dans la cour aboie.

  Mais le vieil homme n'entend rien
  Que la chanson de cette fille délurée
  Qui cherche des bolets dans le bois 
  Et il reste immobile et le cœur en émoi,
  Tout remué par ce railleur refrain
  Jusqu'à ce que la musicale et fraîche voix
  Se soit enfin perdue au loin.
