A Pastoral

They walked along together 
In the twilight's after glow. 

She waited until patiently 
He had lowered all the bars, 
Her soft eyes bent up on him, 
As radiant as the stars.

She neither smiled nor thanked him, 
In fact, she knew not how; 
For he was but a farmer's lad
And she — a Jersey cow
