Barcarole

[Komm, laß]1 uns zusammen den Kahn besteigen, 
Er schaukelt und wiegt sich am goldenen Strand; 
Es nicken die Erlen mit heimlichem Schweigen, 
Die Welle ruht träumend am Ufersand. 

Ich löse die Kette, schon trägt uns die Welle, 
Schon tanzen wir fort auf der grünlichen Flut;  
Hoch flattert empor die schlanke Libelle, 
Die zwischen den blühenden Gräsern geruht. 

Es kochet die Sonne auf Fluren und Höhen 
Mit sengenden Gluten die Traube gar,  
Doch über den Wassern da säuseln und wehen 
Uns duftige Winde kühlend durchs Haar.
