by Samuel Gottlob Bürde (1753 - 1831)

Sehnsucht nach dem Tode
Language: German (Deutsch)
Jenseits wirst du Ruhe finden
Herz, dass hier sie nirgends fand.
Alle Fesseln, die dich binden,
löst ein Freund mit kalter Hand.

Klippen, die dir Schiffbruch drohten,
ängsten länger nicht den Todten;
der in festen Schlaf gewiegt
in den kühlen Erde liegt.

Was ich zu beweinen habe,
Irrthum, Thorheit, Selbstbetrug,
alles scheidet sich im Grabe,
nichts erschwerts des Geistes Flug.

Nie ermüden ihm die Schwingen,
rastlos wird er weiter dringen,
und auf unbegrentzter Bahn
froh dem Ziehl der Wahrheit nah'n.
