by Ernst I Anton Karl Ludwig Herzog von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha (1784 - 1844)

Der Zauber der Erinnerung
Language: German (Deutsch)
Auf unsres Lebens steiler Bahn
zieht schwebend hin ein Genius,
er blickt uns sehnend freundlich an
und haucht mit ros'gem Duft
auf unsre Stirn der Friedenskuss.
Es flieht das Herz die düstre Gruft.

Das Schicksal trennt manch' frohes Paar,
es reisst den Freund von Freundes Brust,
und oft zertritt's, was es gebar;
da reichet er uns seine Hand,
und führt zu nie empfundner Lust
uns ferne in sein Zauberland.

Wie wird's uns dort so wonnereich!
die Vorzeit tritt vor unsren Blick,
was fesselt wohl in jenem Reich
des Lebens stete Wechselung?
Das reine leicht beschwingte Glück?
Der Zauber der Erinnerung!
