An Liebchen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wie kommt mir denn das Heimweh' an?
Das hat mich nie gequält.
Ach nein, das Heimweh' ist es nicht,
ich weiß wohl, was mir fehlt.

Sonst war ich stets so laut und froh,
wenn's in die Fremde ging;

so viele Meilen weit,
und wer sein Liebchen ferne hat,
wem täte das nicht leid?

Nein, nein, von Heimweh' ist es nicht,
dass ich so langsam geh',
und wenn's noch keinen Namen hat,
so nenn ich's: Liebesweh'!

Musical settings (art songs, Lieder, mélodies, (etc.), choral pieces, and other vocal works set to this text), listed by composer (not necessarily exhaustive):

  • by Conradin Kreutzer (1780 - 1849), "An Liebchen", subtitle: "Kein Heimweh", op. 80, Heft 2 (Sechs Lieder aus der Ferne von Andreas Schumacher) no. ?, KWV 9116, published 1831 [ voice and piano ], Leipzig, Probst; this song was published separately and does not appear to fit into the other sets under this opus, but the score clearly states '80stes Werk 2tes Heft' [sung text checked 1 time]
