Waldesstimme
Language: German (Deutsch)
Es zieht ein leises Rauschen
Daher im dunkeln Wald,
Die Stille scheint zu lauschen,
Wenn seufzend es verhallt.

Es wehet in den Zweigen
So flüsternd und geheim,
Ein wunderbares Neigen,
Wie zarter Liebe Keim!

Sind das nicht tiefe Fragen
Der sehnenden Natur?
Fühlst du dich nicht getragen
Von heil'ger Ahnung Spur?

Hier suchen und nicht finden --
Das ist das Räthselwort;
Ein ewiges Verbinden
Die sel'ge Lösung dort!

Found in Leben und Heimath in Gott: Eine Sammlung Lieder zu frommer Erbauung und sittlicher Veredlung, ed. by Julius Hammer, Leipzig: 1862, p. 185. The poet is indicated only as "Die Verborgene" (the hidden [woman]).
