by Julius Mosen (1803 - 1867)

Die Frühlingslerche
Language: German (Deutsch)
Über den Schlüften
Wolken und Wettern,
Hoch in den Lüften
Wirbelt mit Schmettern
Jauchzend die Frühlingslerche, mein Herz.

Unten, tief unten
Liegen die Berge,
Meere gebunden,
Kriechen die Zwerge,
Qualvoll das arme Menschengeschlecht.

Oben, hochoben
In heiligem Frieden
Bin ich enthoben
Der Knechtschaft hienieden;
Freiheit ist oben, Freiheit und Luft.

Confirmed with Gedichte von Julius Mosen, Zweite vermehrte Auflage, Leipzig, F. A. Brockhaus, 1843, page 184.
