4. Der Waldvöglein Sang  [sung text not yet checked]

Language: German (Deutsch)
Im grünen Laub,
so dicht und traut,
wo mild die Lüfte wallen,
mag unser Lied erschallen,
da rühren wir uns schnelle,
und jubeln mit heller Kehle,
und treiben loses Spiel,
und springen
und singen
und können nimmer viel:
immer nur das eine,
das klingt so hell und reine.

Uns thät der Herrgott lehren,
daß wir den Menschen verkehren,
ihr Herzeleid
in Hoffnungsfreud',
wir weisen sie in jene Zeit,
wo ew'ge Lenze blühen,
und Morgenroth
und Abendroth
selbander ewig glühen.

Drum wandle du
in Waldesruh,
und sei fein still und hör' uns zu.
Und laß dein traurig Saitenspiel!
zwar können wir wohl nimmer viel,
immer nur das eine,
das klingt so hell und reine,
dein Saitenspiel zerreißt das Herz,
doch unser Lied stillt allen Schmerz,
so hell und reine.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Schulz (flourished c1837-1838), "Der Waldvöglein Sang", probably from Wanderbuch : Ein Gedicht in Scenen und Liedern von Hermann Schulz. Leipzig, Brockhaus, first published 1838
