Language: German (Deutsch) 
Die Straße brennt im Sonnenscheine,
dort klopft der Alte seine Steine.
Mit krummem Rücken und schneeweißem Haar,
wie Stein so hart, an siebzig Jahr'.

Man geht vorbei, man gibt nicht Acht;
er hockt dort still bis tief zur Nacht,
ob Sturm, ob Regen, ohne Ruh',
er klopft nur Steine immerzu.

Er hat kein Bett, er hat kein Haus,
zog niemals in die Welt hinaus,
fleht nicht zu Menschen, nicht zu Gott,
ist hart und trotzig in der Not.

Die Straße nur, als Lager Stroh,
ist niemals traurig, niemals froh;
im Regen, Sturm und Sonnenscheine,
er klopft nur Steine - immer Steine!
